Today is the Ninth day of the month Av in the Hebrew calendar, the saddest day of the year for the Jewish people. Today we mourn the destruction of our Batei Hamikdash, the first and second temples and the beginning of what seems like a never-ending exile. Through persecutions and Holocausts we have dreamed of our return. And we are here, rebuilding and visiting and dreaming, yet knowing that redemption is not yet complete.
We await that day.
We had plans to go visit the Kotel today. It turns out that with the heat, and not being able to drink, none of the fasters are up to it. But we could if we want to.
Hoping your fast is an easy one...

Great picture! I made it my computer background.
Hope you're having an easy fast. Ours has just begun...
Our guest speaker in shul kept saying "if we aren't redeemed, Eichah is at 9 pm. and if we aren't redeemed, our fast will be over (I can't remember when)".
Yours is almost over as ours has just begun. Next year may we all have a big party in Jerusalem.
I have been luckier than you with the weather: cold and damp.
Hope yours was not too hard.
join us for the walk around the walls next year, and go to the kotel after the walk. it's at night, so the weather is cool enough not to make the fast more difficult.
maybe next year we'll even go up to Har HaBayit....
Where is the picture from? It's wonderful!
